Where can I source original spec coil springs for a 1970 GSX? I am looking at one that had the springs changed and the car sits WAY to high. Also, can someone point me to a thread on a "how to" for changing the springs? And lastly, are there other items I should consider changing while I am in the midst of changing the springs and have that area of the car apart? Thanks! Rob
www.espo.com supplied me with springs that resulted in the correct height. At least one was an X. Rear ones are easy as they sit on perches. Once the shocks are disconnected you can usually put them on jack stands with a floor jack being used to raise and lower the suspension enough to connected and disconnect the shocks. Other items to check are shocks and bushings. The fronts are different. The safest way is to rent a spring compressor from Auto zone but you need air and an air rachet. If you have never done this before I would get some help with experience or take it to a shop.
Thanks! Jim, Thanks for the reply. I contactESPO and spoke with Laura. She looked up your order since I mentioned you recommended them to me for new springs. I asked for the SAME ones you had ordered. She mentioned they were for a non-A/C big block. DOes that sound correct? You also mentioned that these give the correct factory stance for the car, right? Thanks again! Rob
Contact Laura @ ESPO JH - Call ESPO 800-903-9019 and speak with Laura. Tell her you want the same sorings as Jim. She quoted me $90 for front, $60 fro rear (pairs). Rob
Do you have a picture? Jim, Do you have a picture of the car with the new springs installed. I'd love to see the results! Thanks, Rob
I also ordered new springs for my car from www.espo.com - per Jim's advice. I am very happy with the way my car sits. Pictures/specifics are HERE.
Springs Replaced - AWESOME results Hi All, I picked up my "new" car in PA on Saturday and hauled it to Baltimore to store in a buddy's garage until I can have it shipped to FL. I had ordered the springs recommended by Jim Lore from ESPO the week before. So, Sunday was a "spring replacement" project day. The backs are pretty simple to do. The fronts are not hard to do if you have an internal spring compressor and air tools. The project took about 6 hours total and alot of time was spent on the 1st front spring. The second one went much quicker. Anyhow, she now has all new coil springs, new shocks, new brakes, oil, filter, coolant, heater hoses, air filter, breather element. She's ready to roll once I get her home. She even had a nice bath after we were done. I'm VERY pleased with the stance of the car with the new springs. Looks GREAT!!! Rob
