What is the original color for a 70 GSx brake rotor? Obvoiusly where the brake pad rubs has a life of its own. How about the rest?

Makes sense. The reason I ask is that I have seen some with a gold finish too.

From the '71 assembly manual, page 5-6.1:

"Paint outboard exposed caliper surface flat black prior to installing chrome or super sport wheel. Paint must withstand 800 deg F for 30 minutes without changing color. Disc braking surface must be free of paint."

Rustoleum high heat flat black is good for up to 1200 F.

I assume '70 was no different, but I don't have a '70 assembly manual to verify.

What are you going to do with the outer edge of the rotors? Old ones get rusty.

I did not see any sign my calipers had been painted but I will look again. I think it might be easier to clear coat them with high temp.

I've been using duplicolor cast coat iron DE1651 for the parts that are supposed to be as cast. It's an engine enamel. It's good to 500 F, 300 degrees under what the assembly manual calls for. I plan to use it anyway unless I can find something higher heat to use. Do you have a clear in mind?

By the way, my original rotors don't look like they were painted either. the paint probably lasted until the first really hard brake...

I have the same cast iron paint.

Do your calipers look as if they were ever painted?
