Lead. Saw on eBay but also recognize it from Mecum a little while ago. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Buick-GS-4...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0518-337007/1970-buick-gs/
You're right they put new Firestone tires and a new battery. The car SOLD at mecum Indy for 26K. That's what these auctions have become nothing but flippers.
I saw it on eBay and thought I had seen it somewhere; so, I just check Mecum for fun and found it sold at Indianapolis.
Yeah; seems like standard practice for dealerships flipping cars. New tires/battery and a good detailing with lots of wax to shine through the pictures.
Just my opinion, I looked at the car in Indy. For the end buyer, I think at 26k they should be satisfied they did okay. It had a couple issues in the paint that needed to be corrected and some other items that needed to be addressed but nothing a few hours of work couldn't take care of. (The Stage 1 that followed it had similar issues).
Is this the same car that was for sale for the longest time on Craigslist? Somewhere in Iowa/Nebraska if I remember correctly.
The guy that has it for sale moved his business from L. I. down here a few years ago. Jason or Bruno may know him. His name is Lou. I have met him a few times.
Just out of curiosity, how can they claim concourse restoration when it has the wrong wheel centre caps and carb pre-heat tube? Are these deviations allowed? Also what are the white buttons behind the arm rests on the inner door panels? Cheers
Everybody has their own idea of "concours". It's a nice appearing car that would get hammered at the GSCA Nats. The buttons on the doors are to cover the fact it has the wrong armrests. Wrong outside mirror, plug wires, lug nuts, battery, rad cap, covered headrests, seat belts, rr bumper emblem plate, no pics of the underside...who knows? At 26K that was a good deal though, if the paint is nice.
A lot of weirdness on this one starting with the spray-bomb grille. And why would you misspell concours when you are claiming a "concourse restoration"? Have you never been to a concours d'elegance?
I think so. I forgot about that one - I knew it looked familiar. It's on Hemmings too: https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/buick/gran-sport/2120266.html?refer=alert#&gid=1&pid=9
Boy! You're not kidding! The eBay ad title, "1970 Buick GS 455 Ram Air A/C concourse restoration documented" What airport terminal do you think they performed the restoration at?! I guess that airport terminal doesn't allow red stripe rocker panel trim, either. Did you see the short vent wing window cranks for the rear windows? Very "concourse".
No...I missed them. I did not really look it over hard, just looking at it in general. You know...when a car is really done well, it's like "layered". I look and see good stuff, then I look harder to see what else I can see. It's the same if somebody says "concours", I start looking. Right away I noticed no T-3's and thought concours? Then I noticed the other stuff. It's still an attractive car, but if you deducted a point for everything mentioned, it would get hammered at a strict judged show. But...somebody may buy it and be very happy. You could fix all that stuff for a couple K...maybe. You know, it adds up FAST!
I would think the Mecum price of 26K was a pretty good deal for that car, Even with the issues mentioned above it is a very nice looking color combo and has been cleaned up really well. Maybe has some problems that you could only see in person though. I remember some re-pop grills coming in all black and you had to paint them yourself ?
I think the REAL issue with the critiques is that the Dealer stated something to the effect that this was a "no expense spared" restoration and called it a "concourse" restoration. The Seller's description just simply fails to match the hyperbole in his own ad. Nice car, 'yes'. Concours restoration, 'not even close'.
