Contact Monzaz, I believe he can adapt something for that rear. www.jdrace.com The 68-70 Buick 8.2 is more expensive to build. See Monzaz's comments on this thread on his site. http://forum.jdrace.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=348
Will depend on the ratio you want to run also. we have posi units for 2.73 2.93 3.23 3.42 We can make posi units for 3.64 -5.00 But will be plenty more as we need to do more machine work to thew unit
The 68-70 8.2 is the GS or Skylark rear. Same rear. There was a 64-67 8.2. That rear, parts are plentiful.
Where did you see the posi carriers? Is it this one? http://fabcraftmetalworks.com/product/RAB5-0470/Buick-82-Posi-Auburn/ Here are the gears, http://fabcraftmetalworks.com/product/RAB4-08342/1968-1970-82--Buick-GS-342-Ring--Pinion-Gears/
When I ordered a set if gears from them before,Dave mentioned that they make units,as he wasn't sure if I already had one,but I did. I have also taken a new Eaton, for the 8.5" 10-bolt,with the larger bearing hub,and machined the passenger side down. Or,you can leave the unit alone, run the SET36 bearing in the left, and run a bearing/race combo of LM102949/LM102911 on the right, instead of the LM501314/LM501349.
That was me that makes them for others... Jim The ratios I can provide the posi units for are 2.56 2.73 2.93 3.23 3.42 and 3.42 and 3.64 Fabcraft gears. NOW I can make you a CUSTOM 3.64 -5.00 ratio unit But is will be a bit more than the others as it requires EVEN MORE machine work...lol. Jim J D Race
When I did the 69 GS rear recently,I got the Fabcraft gears, and the 28-spline Eaton posi for the 71-up 8.5,and used the bearings I mentioned above. No machining needed. The ring gear was a direct bolt-on,and the carrier was centered in the housing. It didn't favor one side,as if it was the wrong series. I know Fabcraft advertises the Auburn, but we had talked about the Eaton,so I am pretty sure Jim is providing the same thing, and likely cheaper.
I tried that unit and it is not quite as centered as the Auburn. Plus the splines are different 45 degree not the correct 60 degree. could end out rocking the spline from the axle or side gear... which ever less hardened. Jim
Could be. I had Mosers made for the one I built with the Eaton.I just told them what unit,so they put the right pitch on them.
Wow, That ended up being a ridiculous amount of money for a 10 bolt. Hope that was a Stage car. Jim DID you at least upgrade to 30 spline axles?
Yes,I did the 30-splines. Pure stock drags. He parked the original to the car,and I made the stunt double. The FabCraft gears were the only thing that cost more than the 8.5" version.
Only trouble with stuff like that is the axle shaft is bigger than the Pinion shaft spline... ??? I try to explain this to Ford 9" Guys with 35 spline axles. CRAZY.... Nothing you can do on the stock drags - What is the car running in the 60 foot?
Not sure what it 60fts. Yes,you have a smaller pinion stem. Same size as the O-axle. I've taken those rears deep into the 11's,but I have also seen people snap the pinion in a high-12 car. Yes,the aftermarket 28-spline axles would be fine, but the 30-spline cost the same,as well as the posi unit. This is one of those situations where someone wanted to build something cool, and was willing to pay for it. I would not mass-produce them,as they would likely sit here awhile.
