ok, new member with a back story: I've been poking about looking for an older GM A body to restify for a while, and it was beginning to irritate my wife. So in a phone call TO MY MOTHER, she says that I'm looking at stupid old cass again. what does my mom say?

"Rich, you should get a 72 Skylark GS with the biggest engine that came in it, I think it was four-fifty somthing. I bought one new when I got my first job and that was a fun car!"

    Go mom!

So anyway, I'm kinda looking for a 70-72 Skylark, I'd really (really) prefer a GS, but a clean plain jane would be OK. My search criteria is that I want something "project" quality that's relatively complete. matching numbers, engine size, or transmission does not matter to me. it doesn't have to be rust free, but I don't want something that needs every panel of sheet metal rehung.
In a perfect world, someone would have or know of a 72 GS for sale with minimal to moderate rust that's fairly lcoal to me. Iv'e got between $2k-$4k to spend on the car. maybe a little more for something special. (let me know if my ideas of pricing are out of line)
my location is North NJ by the NJ state line. the area is called "Greenwood Lake" if you know it.

    thanks!

    Hello,
My fiance posted his 72 (not a GS but still a great looking car). based on our description of what your looking for this could work out great for you, it is in great shape (he details everything about it on the listing) it's posted in the cars for sale forum on this site the listing is titled
    1972 Skylark 2 Door Hardtop

We're in California but he is negotiable on the price so maybe you could talk him down some and then shipping it would be a good option. Hope you like it, let us know if you have an questions.

    Allie

PS- Glad your mom got your wife your side, skylarks are awesome!

that's a really sweet skylark. I was really planning on either building a new 455 engine based on the new LSX block coming out this spring from GMPP or fabbing a sheetmetal EFI ram manifold for an older 455 engine and then putting that in front of a stick shift tranny. your fiance's car would be an ideal starting point, but I'd feel horrible chopping into such a sweet and well kept piece of history. I will keep the car in mind if something else does not show up, so thanks for letting me know!

I've got a 71 Skylark with a 430 engine and 350 trans. Body work is pretty much done with new Tabco quarters, solid doors and patched up fender. The vehicle is now in primer and is close to being able to be painted. The A/C is out of it and the firewall has been covered. Was thinking of using it for racing, am going different direction now. Price is $3200. I am in the Detroit area. Could work out a deal on bringing it out.

I saw a '72 Skylark 350 for sale in Epping, NH recently. It looks OK, didn't drive it. I have no idea if it listed anywhere online, it is just sitting in someone's front yard off a major road. I think the price was a little high, $8500. Non-orginal paint, lots of little detail things incorrect. I could try to figure out where it is if you are interested.

Looked at this car today. Very good candidate for resto great project. 45,000 orig miles has been in storage since 94. Some rot in quarters around the wheel well not too bad, passenger door has some rust, some light surface rust all over the car, very straignt and solid (not all bondoed up either). interior is all there will need seat covers everything else looked good has the sail panel lights, orig AM radio worked great. 350-2bbrl/th350, p/s p/b (drums) has hub caps, but hes including the orig rally wheels and center caps. runs good. no bubbles under the viynal top. Hes asking $3,900 hes a dealer and has had this car on his lot since last summer so Im shure that the price is flexible.
