I can deliver this flat lens Buck dash tach to the Buick Event at Piedmont Dragway in 2 weeks. Bring your gator clip leads and you can test it on the spot. Price = $200.00 Location = N.C.
Someone refresh my recollection of the wiring layout for the factory tach shown below. Ground would likely be through the bulb sockets normally placed in the two top holes shown below. So to test this one out of the car I will need to run a clip on a ground wire. The input terminal for the 12 volt B + will be either the male spade terminal shown or the nut on the insulator shown below. The tach signal input from the negative side of the coil must go the terminal on the insulator strip not used for the B+. If any one has installed one recently please confirm.
Stock tach only needs connection from the - side of the coil and ground, that's it. Ground the case to the car you are testing it on, and hook it to the coil -.
Larry--so the spade terminal is for the signal input from the negative side of the coil and the tach case is clipped to ground?
Originally, ground was completed through a small steel strap mounted between the speedometer and tachometer. Ground was completed through the case. All gauges used a common ground, and were connected by these straps. The strap between the gauge pod and speedometer was shorter.
Thanks Ken, looking to rebuild the current one, but it seems this could work! new out of box? never used?
We are in a flood watch so no testing just yet. I will do this later this week. [Edit now a flood warning]
