https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/pts/d/carmel-1970-buick-stage-motor/7193601578.html Who knows.. does have a 4 speed flywheel.
I see it was set up for 4 speed, more likely 455 , I texted the Guy to see if he can get the two letter code between 5&7 on block. Waiting for reply
Would you expect a late 70 model year head to have November 69 casting date codes? Could they be November 70 castings? What are the numbers on the distributor? The engine is carrying a lot of crude for 7000 miles.
He answered me the following, And I quote...(From what I found out is that it has stage one heads and a 70 regular block. The motor came from a big private resto shop and looks to have a lot of work done to it. There is a clutch setup on the back of the motor and you can see the tag that was on the motor in the pictures I have in the add.) Pretty much what I figured , some of the above makes no sense and is barely English : stage one heads ? Would have to pull heads) big private rest shop ( irrelevant) looks to have a lot of work done ? ( REALLY ) clutch setup ( obviously) Tag ( besides for being a 1970 455 the rest is gibberish) So no answer on engine code , incorrect information on tag 7000 miles should be able to eat off of it. And the seller doesn’t know s%@t spabout this engine
All they are seeing is the "S1" on the heads which is nothing more than a replacement over the counter casting,...could be big or small valve,...$500 core imo
With the info provided and visuals as they are, that's a core big block and nothing more. A cheap bore scope could identify the valves as stage 1 or not without disassembly, and you better believe I'd be doing just that if I was looking to buy this thing. But beyond that it appears somebody landed this thing and thinks using buzzwords will net them a tidy profit. $500 engine without more proof.
I agree 500.00 core, I tied to end the text with him (ok thanks for the info ) but he won’t leave it alone ...so might have to have a little fun with him....
It would be worth the effort to get the vin off the block. Who knows but with the 4 speed flywheel it just might be out of a real 70 gs455 that is still out there.
