Hi All, I just picked up a 455 out of a wrecked '70 riviera and I know very little about Buicks, but I just couldn't let a 370 hp motor just sit there in the junk yard. Will a 455 fit in a '66-'67 442 without much modification? What 4-spd transmissions are best to bolt up to the 455? What cars did these tranys come in? Is the small block trany bolt pattern different from the big block? I was considering putting it in one of my Blazers, but finding a truck trany that will bolt to the 455 would be hard, right? Now I'm thinking I will put it in a car once I find a trany and suitable car. Thanks. Sven
455 Q. hi there put that 455 in a blazer!!!!! jeep made some waggoneer models with buick engines that had th400 gm trans and transfer case options are endless now days, cant find a jeep? get a BOP tranny and swap shafts . Advanced adapters can make almost anything you can dream up work . That would make an awesome 4x4 , besides 455 olds motors arent far behind Buick and if you keep looking youll find one for that 442.... just my 2 cents
Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply. Does the Buick 455 not fit the Olds tranys? Are all the trany bolt patterns the same for the Buick engines (350-455)? Sorry for all the rookie questions. The problem is that I need a manual trany (preferably with a granny 1st), but maybe the Jeeps also came with manual tranys and buick motors. I'll definitely look into it. The Blazers have a married t-case, but I can probably go with an divorced set up easily enough. That would be a good excuse to buy a welder and a chop saw. Sven
Sven, 350-455 Buick V8's used the same trans bolt pattern. BOP is Buick- Oldsmobile- Pontiac.. They used the same bolt pattern most years. Chevrolet, and some Cadillacs were different.
