I seem to be having issues with the motor holding an idle. I'll give a quick rundown of what I have. '70 SF code 455+.30, Stage 1 heads, popular mech. cam, original dist.(standard 455-never rebuilt), stock intake manifold, Prof. rebuilt '71 carb(stage 1 jets and rods), stock exhaust manifolds. Now when the car is warm it idles between 900 to a 1000 rpm. I drive 10 to 15 miles and stop, now its at 1200 rpm(in park). Shut it off for 10 min. and restart, now its 800 rpm. When in gear the idle moves at least 150 rpm(between 600 and 750 rpm), if it drops below 600 the motor bogs. I'm thinking since the dist. has never been rebuilt, maybe the vacuum advance is bad(?), springs, weights(?). Any suggestions. If this is the problem, I'm going to need advice as to what parts to buy for the distributer.

    Thanks

If you want to upgrade the dist...

The Ignitionman man rebuilds your orginal and can convert it to HEI or MSD, with the stock look.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Check your idle circuits in your carb. Sounds like you have some blockage and possibly worn throttle shafts which are causing erratic fuel distribution(verify throttle shafts are bushed when it was rebuilt.) I don't think your distributor is your problem. Also, check your fast idle cam and adjust the screw so once the engine is warm, it idles at 700-800.
