At some point (previous owner) there was a mini-meltdown in the rear lights. The lights on the left work but the lens is ugly. The inside light on the right won't work and this seems to be a solid piece. Is it possible to replace the socket or what? And why is the access so impossible? Or am I making this too complicated...reaching blindly between the body and the bumper with my head on the tailpipe
Access to the sockets is easiest with the bumper off. I had mine off a couple years ago. The sockets are not easily removed, if even at all possible. They come from the factory already installed in the housing. Now, on the face of the red lenses, there are several long bolts you can remove, and I believe the lens will come right off that way, but you don't gain access to the sockets. Could be you have bulbs burned out on the one side, or a wiring problem back there. Bulbs can be accessed by removing the red lens.
Right on Dave. I've replaced bulbs & some contacts down in thesocktets & got light briefly. As far as I can tell sockets are permanent, just gotta figure it out b/c I'm a cop magnet at this point.
