I have a chance to buy two 1969 Riviera's. Both have running 430's. The one has been in a garage since 1990 and is in pretty good shape for being over thirty five years old. It has posi, ac, cruise, and the interior is in fair condition. The body has no major holes and appears to be fairly solid. Everything works inside the car and the only thing missing is the radio.
The other is a disaster, but would make a good parts car. The body is totally gone, but the interior is nice and all there.
The guy wants $950.00 for the pair. Do you guys think its worth it :Do No: ?
If I buy them are there any parts requests out there???
Let me know what you guys think?
    Thanks,
    Tony

yes...buy them. You could get half of that for the posi rear alone.

Adam, thanks for the fast advice! I had my mind made up already, but was just looking for a second opinion.
    Thanks again,
    Tony

    Hi, Tony.

In the April 05 issue of HCC, they describe a 68 Riv, (which are more or less the same as the 69), in good condition for sale at $4000 as a bargain. Normal price for a 68 in good condition, (according to HCC), are 8-12000.

To quote them again: "If you find a car on the block for this money, ($4000), for heaven sake, buy it"

    Seems you have two winners.

    Good luck, Per.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will probably call the guy who owns them tommarrow and tell him I'll take them.
I forgot to mention that there is a spare 3.42 posi rearend that goes with the two cars. Can anyone tell me what year buicks will this rearend fit? I also have a 73 boattail that I would like to put this posi unit in, but I do not know if it will fit? :Do No: Are there any stamped numbers on the housing or any other way that I can tell these rearends apart from one another???
Thanks for all of your help,
    Tony

Dont buy the cars, its a complete rip off.... This guy is really trying to screw you over. Why dont you give me the guys phone number and address so I can tell him off.

Seriously though, buy it, its a good idea. I bought my 70 Riv for 600 bucks in almost close to running condition- which turned into full resto. I want to smash my foot with a hammer for not buying a 69 complete in not that bad of shape - ie close to my 70's condition, for 400 bucks w/o a tittle... Most of which would then be split because another person wanted the frame to put on some 40s car - which apparently is really close match....

The 3.42 posi is in my riv stock. I think the riv rear is pretty specific, so if its from a riv, its only gonna fit that year or like a few years. Talk to yardley, he would know more I think.

Thanks for all of the advice guys!!! :TU: I called the guy who owns them today and told him I'll take the cars along with the extra posi rearend. I will be picking them up in two weeks. I need to make room in the shop first. I'll try to post some pics if I can get them to attach to the website.
    Thanks again,
    Tony

The 66 through 70 rear will interchange. I have put 69's in 66's, and 66's into 70's. The Boattail is a different animal though. You got several hundred dollars in just the rear alone. Great find!!
