Re: 69 Reclining Bucket Seat Wanted

    Chris asks,
"The 69's came with the seat button in the middle. On the reclining passenger seat, even in a 69, the seat button is on the side. So the question is, on a 69 driver seat, for a car with a passenger reclining seat, would the seat button also be on the side so that it would match the passenger seat?"

Come on guys, think about this logically. For the 1969 models GM changed the bucket seats and put the button in the middle of the seat back. The older "67-68" seat design was redesigned and replaced so where would they find one? The recliner was probably not updated because it was such an obscure option, and GM could not justify doing it.

Do you need me to spell it out for ya, or do you get what I am talkng about?

    Duane --

I'm totally down with your logic -- same way I understood it.

I'm just curious about what is up with Chris's latest car -- I rather suspect someone changed out the driver's seat to match at some point, but I'd love to know what the build sheet said.

Who knows -- if it's a real early car it may possibly have come from the factory with a 68 style driver's seat -- stranger things have happened. If it's a later car -- probably not real likely.

Chris -- what's the body number?

Makes sense Duane, but couldn't they have found it in the same pile that the passenger seat back was in? I mean I would have thought they would have plenty left. Wouldn't they typically stock these things in the parts dept. for a few years? I would think that if a customer with a 68 seat back needed it replaced under warranty or otherwise in 69, they would be able to fill that order, wouldn't they? They would have had to either make more of the passenger side as the orders came in or save them from an earlier year..... Or maybe the dealer would just order a 68 seat back and replace it when the car came in. Seems to me as a customer I would rather have matching seat backs/releases then one new and one old????

I will have to check this weekend, the car is in storage.

The VIN is 434379Z117664 if that helps.

    Duane,

I need you to spell this out for me.

I have now come across three sets of what appear to be original matching 69 bucket seats with a passenger reclining seat option. All three sets had a driver's seat with a 68 side release, none had a 69 seat back.

To me, I have always thought it more feasible that since they were putting on a 68 seat back on the passenger side, they would have put the same on the driver's side (since they probably came in pairs they would have had them if they put one on the passenger side), rather than using mismatched seat backs from 68 and 69.

Looking for a definitive answer here if possible.

Anyone recall seeing a set of what appeared to be an original matched pair that had a driver's seat with a 69 back and a passenger seat with a 68 back?

Were the 69 seat sets you found Buick, or other makes -- pontiac, olds, whatever?

All the ones I have found are Buick seats Steve, and all of them have been 69 seats. Any idea what a good pair of cores is worth?

Thanks for the ad mention - they are my seats.

So it looks like the seats I have add weight to the theory that BOTH seatback releases are located on the side for the reclining option in 69.

And sorry for the double post, but I need to have two posts in order to be able to PM or email people :)
