Interesting.... :TU: I wonder what that "1" stamped just to the right of the body number is on the cowl plate?
must be nice to be able to spend 30K on car yet only hope for 10K for it. I'd be sleeping on the couch for the rest of my life...or marriage, whichever ends first.
No F-ing way they have 30k in that turd, even if you paid double for everything there, and double labor.......BS:Smarty:
I think it very likely there could be a 30k investment here. If you assume 5k for the original purchase price of the car, and another 5k in rechromed bumpers, engine "rebuild", sheetmetal, and interior kit, that leaves 20k. If a shop's labor rate is 50/hour, that means 400 hours (not even taking into account materials). That car could easily be into 400 hours as a full restoration can typically take 1,500 to 1,800 hours total. I'm not saying that it was a wise investment, or that the car is even a good value now at 10k, all I'm suggesting is there could well be truth to the 30k claim. The reality is a step child car can't be dropped off at a shop for a full restoration and the owner anticipate much in the way of respect for their decision. If there were a lot more fully restored '68-'69 cars covering the show fields, then maybe we could expect a higher appreciation for them as an investment. Right now, anyone pouring money into a step-child is a candidate for psychiatric evaluation.
