I just received the exterior door handles for my 69 GS. They are identical. They are 68-69 Chevelle Door handles. It's as simple as that. Huh, Chevelle, go figure. :Dou:

They are GM restoration parts and the number on the box is 4780. They are for 2 and 4 door "front".

I am so psyched. The gaskets came with it too. This guy deserves a lot of credit because he actually knew my application. There ain't a lot of people out there that know anything about Buick, no less 69. If you are in the market for 68-69 door handles, brandy new GM resto parts, you may want to keep this place in mind. They delivered where all others failed to because of their lack of knowledge or lack of interest in me getting the correct parts.

You guys have heard me trash plenty of vendors on this board, I pull no punches, but, when you deliver the goods, I will always give credit where credit is due.

I think the guys name is Eric but I'm not sure. Just tell him you heard from the guy that he sold the 69 Skylark (Chevelle) door handles to. He'll probably remember.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, $70 plus tax. A decent price if I do say so myself. Especially for the correct parts!

    Yippeeeeeeee! :beer  :TU:

    Ken,

Found that part number in the system at YO its 0H4780. However, the pushbuttons still did not match the originals on my '69. My originals had a bend at the end of the pushbutton.

Did the ones you received have the correct pushbuttons?

    Thanks,

    Mike T

Mike, these came with the pushbuttons already mounted. All one full assembly.

I spoke with EVERYBODY at Y1. They assured me they didn't have these, that the ones they sell for even the 68-69 Chevelle were the same ones they sent me, which was OH4155. This is the part number in their system that cross references with 68-72 GS.

I would just as soon give my $$ to Sundell, he knew what I needed, and I had it in 3 days. Hopefully they mount ok. I was holding them up against my originals and even the angle of the mounting surfaces looked identical. I believe these are the real McCoys. I really am quite excited. :Brow:

Mike, what do you mean by a "bend" at the end of the pushbutton? You mean the pushbutton "shaft"? If so, these HAD them. Just like my originals.

Yes, there should be a 45 degree bend at the end of the pushbutton shaft, that's what I was refering to. Glad that YOs referal to Sundell worked out for you, and that Peter was pleasant to deal with.

Sorry the 0H4780 wasn't listed as it should have been in the Skylark book. Part of the problem lies in that the manufacturer of those door handles doesn't generally list any Buick applications at all. You are lucky that they had those handles new, as in the past they have been very difficult to get reliably!

Thanks and good luck with your continuing project,

    Mike T

    Thanks Mike!

Even though Y1 didn't "come through" with the goods, they DID steer me in a direction which ultimately yielded me correct parts. These parts shouldn't be too tough for Y1 to stock and sometimes I truly feel that certain parts which are correct for my application simply get overlooked by people who are not familiar with my particular application.

This guy at Sundell just happened to remember mounting up a set of these Chevelle door handles to a 69 Skylark and said they looked perfect. I went with his word and I got lucky. Sometimes the small companies can pick up the bits and pieces that the big companies drop.

One thing I must say is that you really need to know your car when you are buying parts from anybody. Year One, even though they didn't have, or at least couldn't find, the parts in their inventory, still went over and above (ok, so I left a message on Kevin Orr's voicemail which may have helped :eek2: ) what they "had" to do by sending me off in a direction that helped me. These are the kinds of practices that bring customers back for more business, whether you have the parts or not, people will be more willing to come back and try you first when treated like they care about your satisfaction.

Many aftermarket Buick parts suppliers, who's names shall remain anonymous, could learn a thing or two from this transaction.

Laziness will get you nowhere, a little extra effort now and then will double it's worth in return. :TU:

    Thanks Y1 and thanks Sundell!

    handles

I need a set too. Ken, did they have the same weight /thickness as the originals? I have seen some repro's that were much lighter and thinner where you hand wraps around.

Thanks for bringing this back up.

Greg, you had the wrong ones then. This set is absolutely identical to the originals I had. This was a GM replacement part. Not Joe Blow's reproduction.

Be careful, because Year One, OPG, EVERYBODY, sells the 70-72 door handles for everything from 68-72. They don't know the difference. 68 & 69 had a longer (deeper) housing for the button. It is completely obvious when you put the 70-72 side by side with your original. I informed Year 1 a long time ago of this handle info. Whether they did anything to correct it I have no idea.

That's why if you order a 68 or 69 "Chevelle" door handle, you will get the right part. If they "send" the right part that is. :Dou:

A lot of people make the same mistake and say they are all the same for 68-72 Skylark. They are not.
