    Hello all,

Is there a trick to removing the dash bezel on a 69 skylark? I removed the obvious visible screws, but it still seems tight. It appears that maybe there are some hidden by the dash pad. If there are some behind the dash pad, what is the trick to removing the dash pad without damage? I usually don't have a problem figuring out how things are put together, but this has me stumped.

    Thanks for any help,
    Brandon

You do have to take off the dash pad and the worst part is the clips on either end on the lower portions of the dash becareful not to bend the dash as you pull them from the mounting holes. There may also be some nuts retaining the dash from below some of mine have not had them but I think there are at least 3 if not 4 nuts holding the dash pad down. once the dash pad is off you will see what has been holding you up If I recall there are 4 screws holding the dash besel in place under the dash pad

It has been a few years since i took my dash off but I think this is correct. I installed factory air in my car and had it ALL apart nice job but I would not do it again hehehehe :Brow:

    Ken,

Are the three or four nuts you mentioned that might be holding the dash pad down located on the passenger side above the glove box. I found one push in fastener on the right side of the gauge bezel and one stud without a nut to the right of that. I haven't pulled the glove box out yet to check for the remaining studs. Also, does the left side of the pad and the section above the gauges use the push in fasteners too. I don't want to pull on that and crack the vinyl or bend the supporting metal of the pad.

    Thanks again,
    Brandon

    Brandon,
If the 69 is like 70-72, the glovebox liner has to come out. There are 2-3 studs that go through the metal dash with nuts. There are 2 screws that go straight up into the dash pad (directly above the speedo cluster) Then the dash pad pulls straight out with clips(just pull straight back on each side). You also have to pull off the access panel under the steering wheel, and drop the wheel. There are 2 more screws under the access panel, and the speedo cable has to disconnected, to pull the dash bezel out further.

Brandon see attached pictures of the back of the dash pad. Also be carefull in removal of the the clips that hold the ends. If you pull/pry you may crack the the pad. Best to tap from the back with small hammer and it will pop out. Put grease on the stud before putting back on the clip when you put the pad back one. Thanks Bill Sangster.
