I am looking for a pair of perfect plastic backs for the 69-72 bucket seats.

Hopefully a Northern pair that hasn't been dried out and hammered by the sun like they are down here. If you have a pair for sale you will have to "bear with me" as some of these, while looking great at first glance, are still dried out and won't take the redye/repaint correctly.

The grain can still look great but if they can still be dried out too much so I will likely ask a lot of questions and seek some assurance from you that they are in fact not dried out.

Sorry to be a pain on this one but I am looking for pieces that are real nice.

Color is not that big of a deal, condition is.

Also---nothing that has already been recoated/redyed/repainted.

    Thanks

    >>Here is a white set on ebay. Kind of hard to tell how good they are from the pics but you can e-mail the seller:

I sold the original backs off my bucket seats I am now working on as they had scratches and bought a new pair from OPG. Quality was very good - I painted them to match the seat covers and they are waiting to go on soon.

Chris, have you trial fit the seat backs from OPG? I was looking for a set of backs and bottoms for a 68 in white and OPG appears to have every color except white. I though there was a post on here about the poor quality of the reproductions. Thanks Bill.

I posted on the lack of detail in the grain/texture, thus I am looking for great used ones.

Thanks for the ebay link....original white ones are some of the worst in terms of drying out. I will peruse the auction but will likely pass as I don't want to bump up against an auction deadline when my real concern is whether or not they are dried out.

Thanks for the info. Please post some info on the grain/texture detail on the OPG seatbacks if you get a chance.:TU:
Edit: Just looked at the ebay seatbacks and those won't work as they have holes drilled in the back for the extra trim.

    I need seatbacks for a '70 Olds 442.

    STILL LOOKING FOR THESE.

    >>Well, they are definitely not concours material but they will certainly get the job done. It's pretty difficult to find a really nice original set because the seat backs usually dried out after 30+ years of wear and tear. The grain on the repros isn't exact and the back plastic loops which go over the metal tabs on the seat frame are glued on and not molded, also you need to drill the screw holes for the seat release button (on a '71, I think the '68 perhaps had the seat release button in a different place?), but they will go on and work. I bought the repros in black (cheapest color) and sprayed them to match my sandalwood interior (SEM paint Phantom White). I did the same with the repro seat bottoms and they fit very well.

The seat backs on the e-bay link look like the ones off Rivieras, and have a padded piece in the center with a stainless trim ring. These would not be correct for the A-bodies, and if you look at the pic you can see where they are chalky/flaking at the top.
