I recently discovered a 69 442 W-32 near my house. The car has had 1 owner since 1970, and has been in colorado since 1973. The engine code is QT, so it is correct for a W-32. TH-400 trans, and 12-bolt olds rear with a 3.91 posi. The car was red with white stripes and a black bucket/console interior. Options include...P/S,PDB,rally pak, tilt, hood stripes,ssI wheels, and an AM radio. Heres whats wrong with it. The current owner decided to "restore" it, so he COMPLETELY disassembled the car. The whole interior is stripped out, the engine/trans are out, front clip is off, and every imagineable bolt and screw was taken off and thrown in a box. The car is a roller, and all the parts are either in the trunk, in his garage, or in his shed. It has been in it's current state for many years now. The body is very straight and has rust holes about the size of a fist behind all four wheels. All the floor and trunk pans are excellent. WHAT IS THIS CAR WORTH IN THIS CONDITION?? o No: He told me $2500, and this price sounds very reasonable. Especially considering there were only 272 of these cars made!! Thanks for the help, Kevin
Worth every bit of $2500 Kevin, it's worth every bit of that, but a major project. I would estimate it would take somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$12k to restore it into a nice driver quality with new paint/bodywork and usable interior. It would probably be a break even proposition financially. It is a very rare car, but not as desirable as a W30. Sounds like a great project with a parts car to supply the interior. They're rather plentiful as any Cut;lass S or 442 would work for that. This scenario is almost identical to my 68 W30. I bought just the bare shell, frame (unattached), and title after the rest of the car was ebayed down to every last clip and screw. A parts dealer bought it from anothr guy who had planned to restore it and got about as far as this one is right now...in boxes and a big pile. This happens all the time.
All the major/rare parts are there, including the whole drivetrain, seats, console/shifter, rally pak, hood, and the air cleaner. If nothing else I would like to buy it, and put it back together as a 100% complete, running/driving car. I'd have my fun with it, then someone like you could buy it and restore it. :Brow:
The owner of the duster won't sell it. He'd rather see it rot than have someone do something with it. You should buy that 69 W-32, it would look at home next to your 70. :Brow:
i could put the car together for you,no problem, for a reasonable fee....just ask daveH what i did to my brother's w-31.. i figure about 3 months turnaround.. here is what i need just rent the bay at the garage in Marengo again, fire up the coffeepot, and deal with the rednecks asking "whatcha dewin to thayut cah"?
I knew that car before Andy did a good job saving that W31 last year. I knew it beforehand up here in Mich., and was rapidly heading toward a parts car with a rotten frame. I believe someone already "traded" the rear end and got the good one before he bought it. Andy: I assume you got that other one fixed or replaced that was in it at Norwalk?
put the original 3:42 back in it,dave.... heck, you can drive all over the city in 2nd gear with this gear ratio..... doing the original block right now 060 over for forged flattops..
I just want someone to buy it. It bums me out seeing it sit there all taken apart under a ripped up tarp. I would like to see it get sold to someone who will restore it. It's not advertised, but the owner said that "if someone came to the door with $2500, it would be sold." If anyone is seriously interested I can try to get a phone #. Thanks, Kevin
