I bought a solid running 455 to drop into my Sportwagon. After 223,000 miles, I have a blown head gasket and need to correct the problem with as little cash outlay as possible. I bought the 455 in a parts car. Aftyer looking at the njumbers, it's a dreaded '76 455. I know it's a slug, but it has to be better that the tired 400 I am pulling...

I'd like to swap the 400 intake and put it on the '76 455. Will this work? The 455 is solid and I do not have the $ to pull the heads off of the 400 and have them reworked to put on the 455. I know this would be ideal, just can't swing it right now.

    Thanks for the input!

Mike, I think it should swap without any problems. I believe 400-430-455 intakes are the same. I am sure one of the BBB guys will clarify this for you.

You will need to plug the holes that bring heat to the carb, and then it will work. When you pull the manifolds, you will see that the 69 has a long slot, and the 76 has a rectangular hole. If you install it without plugging the holes, you will have an exhaust leak and LOTS of noise. :)

Thanks, Joe. How should I plug them? Is it better to plug the heads? Are you taliking about the 1" ports in the midddle of the heads? It's been a long time since I've had one of these apart...
