Can anyone tell me what the stock drive and driven gears are in a stock no thrills 69 350/th350? I'm hoping to be able to order what I need for my rearend upgrade without having to open it up quite yet.

Let me know if I need to provide more info to figure this out.

I've searched a little, but only found how to calculate the new gears.

You may find that information in the 1969 Buick Chassis manual. You have one Right?

I do have one, yes. Never actually thought to look there for some reason. I'll see what I can find, thanks.

Look in the transmission section for the tooth count on the DRIVE gear. Look in the rear axle section for a listing of DRIVEN gears and axle ratios. First, you MUST be absolutely sure that the THM350 in your car is the correct one it left the factory with. It may not be, and if that is the case, you CANNOT assume that the DRIVE gear is the same as listed in your chassis manual.

Well since I couldn't find it in the book I w went ahead and pulled it. It is a white 36 tooth gear with a green gear on the shaft. Am I correct in assuming 17 tooth green gear or is it the 9 tooth? I'm so lost.

This is what I want to go to.

225/70/14, 3.73 rear and it is a TH350. Is it even possible to get the right gear?

Looking at all the confusing info. I need to get a 15 tooth drive gear, 43 tooth driven gear, and a 40-45 housing with a new o ring?

If you have it apart, you can just count the number of teeth on the DRIVE gear. It is more difficult because it is a helical gear, but it can be done. Trans in neutral, rotate the drive shaft with the back of the car in the air.

    Yes, that will work.

Larry, thank you. It seemed like every site I went to gave me different info. The more I looked the more confused I got.

There is more than one way to accomplish what you want.

How so....? And am I making this more difficult than it should be? I really do appreciate all the help.

Seems you really do have a problem. I assumed that there was a 15 tooth DRIVE gear available for the THM 350. From what I am reading, I do not see one. The 15 tooth gear is available for the 400 not the 350. You may need to use a ratio adapter. Try this site:

Oh no, well I ordered a 15 tooth drive gear that I read will fit the 700r4 and th350bop transmission is that incorrect?

    Its gray.

Because the way i read that site is the Chevy th350 items won't fit. The 700r4 items will fit?

OK, hope it does. A 15 tooth DRIVE gear and a 43 tooth DRIVEN gear will work.

I edited the post a little with more info. Like you say basically I'll just get it and see what happens.

Like I always say (sarcastically) "what's the worst that can happen"

Got all the gear and seems to be working well. The drive gear was a little tight, but fits up nicely.

Just had to get a different clip to hold the drive gear.
