I'm helping out a friend to find out what type of trans is in a 68 skylark. automatic. I'm not sure on engine size.

If it is a base model or Special Deluxe, probably a 2 spd. Check the gear indicator in the instrument cluster.

My first guess is the Super Turbine 300, without any other information (2-spd like George said). Just a guess, though, could also be a TH350 (3-spd).

Exactly...even tho the square "stamp" is in the 68 firewall..for the kickdown..th350....was not offered.....the ST 300 is useless.....was glad i change my wifes car, 1968 skylark ,over to th350.

Queston for Buick Dave...what kick down pieces do you need for a th350 transplant, and where does it mount. I've got the tranny, converter, & driveshaft. what else do I neeed to complete the installation?
    Thanks

Gene, you will need a gas pedal out of a 69 Skylark-GS. It will have a mounting for the carb cable , and a seperate one for the kickdown cable. It took me a while to find them....it also took me a while to find the kickdown cable....i actually called old established tranny shops..since they are not re-popped yet...and a guy sold me a couple used ones. I am not sure about the 1970 an up kickdown tho..i hear some were mounted to the carb....maby some one else can help there.
I hope this helps.....some one will have a 69 gas pedal for ya im sure....

I believe Buick kickdowns for TH 350s were always to the gas pedal. (At least in any of the years we are interested in.) Chevys used a kickdown to the carb

I'm looking at a *67* skylark with a 340 and a 300 switch-pitch tranny. Can the front pump and torque converter be put into another transmission to convert it to SW?

    Clay,
The SP torque converters interchange between ST300 and 400 Transmissions, but the front pumps are different I believe. If you want to remove the front pump from the ST300 and put it into another ST300, you can do that.

    Larry,

Thanks for that info, I also believe that the ST300 had a smaller converter?
(like 12 inches). If I use that the converter behind my 455 the stall should go up a little.

Yes, the ST400 used a 13" converter, the ST300 used a 12" Jim Weise at TSP markets a reworked 12" ST300 converter. I have one in my car. High stall is 3000-3200, and low stall ~1800. I love it.
