    Hey all,

I have an opportunity to buy a 68 Riv with a 455 engine the body needs a little work and the chassis is solid, but I'm more interested in the motor in the car. I was wondering if there are any parts that if I swapped to my Stage 1(1973) would help me in horsepower are the pistons better to give me a higher compression?? Will the crank fit?? Are the heads better?? Anything else that I should be interested in from a 68?? The car looks pretty good except for some small spots of rust. May do the car and sell it or part it out if there is enough interest in some parts for people. Any feedback would help a lot I'm planning on getting the car within the week if any of it can be used. Thanks for any help.

68's didn't come with a 455 it was a 430, I know some parts are interchangable like the heads, but I'm not sure of every part. If it is a 455, best to find out what year it came from.

Trevor is right. It only has a 455 if someone later installed it there. Very well possible because many 430's went down over the years. Find some engine numbers and post them. If it is a 455, you might have a 70 model with the higher compression. If it is the original 430, it has a good chance having the "Big Port" heads which flow a little more than 455's (if they aren't cracked). You would have no problem selling a posi rear if it has it. Or, good dash bezel, dash pad and console parts are hard to find. Look for the odd options on it also. Good luck.

    The car isn't a 68 I was misinformed. It's more like a 73 or 74 with a 455.

if it has a boat tail it's a 73, if it isn't than it would be a 74

By boat tail I assume you mean the pointed back window?? This car has a pointed window. The car body is pretty solid ,motor apparently is running. Leather interior, power seats and windows, the dash is in good shape. I think the chassis may be rusted. He only wants 500 dollars canadian for it but I think its too much for me to do right now.
