trying to get info on my ignition to starter wire. it does not look like any of the other wires, and it gets very hot and starts smoking with just key on and continues to when running. just started happening, coming form the fire wall, it split into two wires. a red one and a yellow one that goes to the starter. the red one is looped to itself. ( i got this car from my dad when he passed) so im not sure what all was messed with , in regards to the wiring. also coming form the ignition, i have put to wire in the 'negative' side of a fuse, hoping the fuse would blow beofre anything bad happend. i do not how where that wire is actually supposed to go either. advie or sloutions are greatly appriciated. PS. the HEI distro, does not come in contact with said wires..msd 6al.

Sounds like the fusible link is cooking. This means you have a short or the resistance has built up in the wire due to age and its getting hot.Get yourself a Chassis manual ASAP. Everything you need to know will be in there.
