68 Riv Diff! Side Gear backlash?

Hey guys,

currently I'm overhaulin my rear axle of my 68 Riviera.
I guess I have too much backlash in my side gear.
I can't find anything in the manual. I only found the backlash for the pinion gear.

Is that normal?o No:

It's approx. 0.02 inch.

May this be cause for the following situation?

Before I removed my rear axle, i heard a rattling while driving (click,click,click).
When I drove faster the rattling went faster, too.

Click click click could be dry U-joints.
