68 GS windshield wipers

  1. Ok, I'm looking at the 1968 parts book, at the windshield wiper switch, group 10.163. There are 2 switch choices listed for the GS/Skylark models. One is described as "less depressed park", the other is described as "depressed park". Can anyone explain what "depressed park" refers to?

    David,

thats a good one man ??? never heard that. only thing i can think of is when the wiper is parked(down on the cowl) like it isnt in use. arm # 1 could "park" the blade farther down under like the hood lip, farther outa site, than say arm #2 does.

    no clue ?????????

  3. There's even 2 drawings of the wiper assy's in the parts book labeled "depressed" and "non-depressed", but I'm having a heck of a time trying to tell what is different between the 2. I now see there is also a depressed and non-depressed view of the pump/motor assy, that does show distinct differences there. I'll have to take a look at mine, and see which it resembles. I wonder if this isn't in reference to the concealed wipers...

  4. Ok, I took a look under the hood, and I have the depressed setup. I found a larger diagram in the parts book that shows the wiper difference. The depressed setup has a double-acting wiper arm on the driver's side, while the passenger side just has a single arm configuration. I would say it is how the "concealed" wipers work. That is the terminology used in the 1968 Facts and Features book.

The reason I was inquiring in the first place is because there is an NOS wiper switch on ebay, but it is for the non-depressed version.

    David,
You are right, the depressed park wipers are the ones that "tuck" under the hood line when not in use. These cars have a wide chrome piece at the bottom of the windshield.
The non-depressed wipers are always visible, even when off. The post cars usually have these, and the chrome piece at the bottom of the windshield is much thinner. The motors also look completely different.

  6. Thanks Duane. Yes, the wiper motor is VERY different! I am surprised that the instrument panel switches are different between the two.

I knew about the depressed wipers (should they seek therapy ??) but i had no idea that the wiper arms were different. Guess all (9) 68'69's that I've owned have all been depressed:Do No:

Someone local came over to look at the 'Sky last weekend so i took the opportunity to start up the Convert. and back her out of the garage.

Mmmmmm.....that BigBlock w/ TA413 cam is PURE music to my ears!!!

Both loping at idle and with a few high RPM stabs of the pedal. The roads were cleared by rain the day before so i told Wifey.com i was going around the block a few times.

....2 hours later I pulled back into the garage, closed the door and went into the house where my cold dinner sat waiting on the table. I listened to the obligatory :spank: :spank: :spank: and got the cold shoulder later in bed.....but boy did I have a smile on my face anyway:TU:

The next morning wifey asked were i went ?? I said for therapy:Smarty:
