After talking with my folks, I learned that my Dad was a Buick-only guy for many years. His first car was a '41 I believe he said (I wrote it down) and then he owned a string of them up until his last, a '68 Electra. I'd like to get a '68 Electra just for nostalgia's sake...having the same car that my parents once owned when they were a younger couple. Not looking for a show car because I am a teacher and therefore not wealthy, but not looking for a car one rust-flake away from the scrapyard, either. Thanks for your time and any leads. Dave in Amherst, MA
Thanks for the link. $11k is definitely out of my price range. My parents' car was a hardtop, so I'd prefer that as well. I thought I'd find more such cars for sale on this forum. Is this the biggest classic Buick site on the 'net?
This site definately has the most "action" but there are other sites where people list cars for sale take a look over at Buick Bombsite as well as the Buick Club of America (BCA)
Another spring is here, another season of motivation to find an old Electra. Now looking for a 4 door, but a 2 door also still an option. Thanks for any leads. I know they're out there for reasonable prices. Looked at one today, but could not pull the trigger on it
Dave I have a 71 with 26k miles on it. It has a few door dings and the passenger fender is dinged but other than that is in great shape. The interior looks new. I was only looking to get $3500 for it. I'm not far from you on the sound here in West Haven, CT if you want to come down and take a look at it. When I got it it had never been tuned up. Original wires, cap. rotor and plugs. I tuned it up and it has 4 new Made In America Cooper Tires on it.
Here's the fender. I think it would pull right out. Only rust is a little surface rust on the one skirt.
Hi David. Thanks for the reply. I tell you what, that is an impressive looking beast. What motor is in there? Does it need any mechanical work to be driven immediately? I'll be honest and say that it is a bit out of my current price range. I looked at a '69 the other day that had 80k original miles and ran beautifully. It had some rust, but was only $2k. I am relying on the funds generated from selling my '95 Formula to put me in a Buick, and the Formula won't be selling for $3.5k. I bought a '77 Grand Prix down in West Haven many years ago...nice area.
Dave it's a 455 and the only thing it needs is a waterpump. It started squeaking a bit last fall when I put the car away. I have a couple on the shelf in my garage. Just need to change it. A/C compressor needs a front seal and a recharge. That's about all that's wrong with it. You could probably drive this car to California if you wanted and not worry.
Hmm...do you have more pictures of it to share? Can't decide if I like the lines of it as much as the earlier years. That price pretty firm? Not sure when I could get down there to look at it. Weekends usually work, but this weekend I am chaperoning a school field trip.
Dave-- I know of a 1969 Electra 225 coupe for sale in Minnesota. asking $2200.00. Car is mostly complete . Headliner problem but the rest is great shape. The car is about 1+ hrs a way . If your interested I can try to post some pics in a few days --- PM me if you are interested --Mike
Mike, I appreciate the reply. One thing I have not come to terms with yet is the idea of trusting my money to strangers hundreds/thousands of miles away and having to hope that the car gets delivered, hauling charges are reasonable etc.
It's only 1500 miles from Minnesota to your home.....o No: Wait for the photos, if you like what you're seeing: Talk to Mike on the phone, if you can work out a deal, board a plane and drive that Electra home. Life is so simple......   (You already "wasted" 1 year since your first post about buying an Electra)
There is. was. a wery nice looking -68 4door Electra black for sale on this board. owner v8regalowner. Which i was closer. Goran
