'68 Buick GS-400 w 455 motor

Discussion in 'Wet behind the ears??' started by Daughter's-68 GS-400, Aug 6, 2019.

  1. My 16 year old daughter just bought a '68 Buick GS-400 w 455 motor in it and we are wondering if anyone had a suggestion on a good motor manual for the motor. She has some motor work she needs to do and having a book would be helpful.

Welcome to you both! Factory service manual for most tasks along with searching this site for specifics. I’ve heard that the book Jefferson Bryant wrote is one to avoid. A lot of us like ‘stepchildren’ and we all like pictures...

I have the same combo. I have both the 68 and 71 chassis service manuals. But for you, you could start with the 71, 72, etc. whatever year has the 455.

Everything you need to know is research able right here on V8buick. Head over to the 400-430-455 street/strip forum and ask questions. We can help you avoid the biggest mistakes newbies make when building these engines. Be patient and do your research here before buying parts.

  7. We have made some great strides although slow for some, like my daughter, but we are getting there. We are needing a part and all the places I have called say it's no longer available. We are looking for the Complete Core Support for the 68 Gs400. Does anyone know besides the 68-69 are there any other models where they cross over. Does someone have a suggestion on where to get one or even the side replacements. Our battery side is rusted really bad,
