About 8 years ago I bought a tilt column out of a Chevelle from a guy for $50. It wasn't pretty but with no cracks or breaks it seemed like a safe deal. Problem is for some reason the bozo whizzed off the lockout arm (not the shift lever this is a console shift column) that goes down to the transmission. Until now I've always taken a certain pride in that my car has literaly been as far apart as a car can be. Well I wasn't taking into consideration the steering column. Anyone out there in Buick land a PRO with these and can give me some nitty gritty technical assistance? thanx
Send me pics of the column and your problem.....I rebuild them all the time. GStage1@buickperformance.com
Big thanx to George N. on this. I think I have a course of attack planned to get this fixed up. Putting it all back together after a week or so to fix the tube and paint it up should be fun though! (not) However, for a small investment and a bit of work I will have a very nice tilt, floor shift type column and that will be cool. regards
For anyone looking to do major surgery on a steering column the site below is the BOMB! http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?page_id=5 Service manual pics and part numbers. Even some fairly good descriptions of takedown and reassembly. Given most people will NOT need to take a column down this far but for those that do.... regards
