That was the last year for the ignition switch on the dash, after 68 the ignition switch moved to the steering column for anti-theft/safety reasons.

68 was a huge year of change for all of the GM line. for the skylark/ GS it was a major styling change but was only the beginning for performance. it was the last year for a nonfunctioning hood scoop, no ram air [a big mistake for a lot of guys fixing up their car]. the next year was to be the last for the 430, enter Mr.455. i dont think there was a stage motor in 68 either, was there? i think the 69 was actually a safer car as well with adjustable headrests and disk brakes. was 68 the last year the two speed auto was standard? i could look this up, but i am sure most buick guys know this stuff by heart:TU:

'68 was the last year for non-functioning hood scoop = yes
A "cold air" package was available over the counter to add "ram air" to your car.

'69 was the last year for the 430 = yes. The largest motor for '69 A-bodies was still the 400 CID.

Stage 1 and 2 motor parts were available over the counter but not from the factory in '68.

Head rests were available in '68 but not manditory. I think in very late '68 model year head restraints became manditory.

Disc brakes were an option in '68 just like any other year.

The two speed auto was standard in '68 350 cars.
In '69 the Turbo 350 was standard.

The heater adjusters had round "roller" switches in '68 for safety reasons but I guess they realized how hard they were to use so they changed them in '69.

The '68 Deluxe steering wheel was the same as '67 except the chrome around the center piece has a matted finish and not bright chrome.
