So my buddy's son has made 3D printed steel molds to press steel patch panels for the inner fenders for 68-69 Skylark and GS. Pretty ingenious if you ask me. He has a YouTube channel where is building a turbo charged inline 6.
I enjoy seeing the use of 3D technology in our hobby. I want to learn more myself and have spent some time at a local maker space and hope to get better and be able to produce some items.
Wow! That's impressive! I stumbled on his vid this morning... was gonna make a new post but you beat me to it. His technique opens up a lot of opportunities for someone looking to make a small run of repo parts. Mike G? While I don't have the tech he has.... I-phone scanner and 3D printer, I could likely make some molds with wood or metal to make a few pieces. I have been using a bead roller with some success. I like his technique! He has another vid showing the pressing:
So he has a straight 6 with a turbo...... I recall seeing posts years ago here about one. Is it the same guy?
Karl has his 'Make It Kustom' series on YouTube. Old school craftsmanship! Here he makes panels using wood and steel forms: And battery tray repo (Gary, we should do this!):
Hey guys! This is me! Appreciate the kind words! I was kinda on the fence about doing a higher volume run since I'd need to buy the blanks at a high-ish volume (10+ per side) for it to be cost effective. I saw a few people interested between this post and YouTube so I'm getting close to putting in another order of blanks to press them for sale.
Fair point! I know I've seen plenty of rotten passenger sides but driver sides (even mine) usually hold up pretty well. It'd make sense to start there. I'll look at getting some fresh molds printed and ordering some blanks this week. I was thinking about modeling and pressing some patches for the core support as well but turns out they already have a big-time manufacturer making those https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/pr...d-under-the-battery-tray-must-be-welded/54610
Would you be interested in doing the '68-72 shifter hump? I have a few that are damaged but could be used to model. I believe '68-9 Olds uses the same part.
I just ordered another set of blanks and will be printing some fresh molds for the passenger side (battery side). I'll look at getting these pressed out and put up on somewhere for y'all in probably the next couple of weeks. ------------------------ Do you have pics of what it looks like and approx dimensions? You thinking you'd want it printed out of plastic?
I'll have to watch the vid. but seems you printed the tooling & are using it to stamp the parts out of metal, which is how shifter humps would need to be done as they get spot welded in. I can post some pics w/dims.
I'll take one for the passenger side if they become available. I admire your ingenuity and ability to solve this problem.
Appreciate it buquick! Stamped out several of these and posted in the for sale forum here if you/y'all are interested https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...r-inner-fender-patch-for-battery-area.392463/
Hey Dano! The 64-67 Chevelle humps are identical to 65-7 Buick. I think the later Buicks just have a larger opening?
