Okay so I bought a switch pitch tranny and I'm pretty sure it came out of a 67. This thing has some strange old style filter thing (see pic) unlike the newer TH400s. I've been to four different parts stores and nobody seems to have it. Maybe its called by a different name or something. Can anybody help me with where to find this filter or maybe a part number to go by. :Do No:

    John:

I bought one in July of 2003 from Makco Distributing 214-381-4431. I have part #46919X "Filter 400 64-67" for $19.71. It was some time ago, but that is the best I can do. They also had the detent solenoid and the "T" connector.

I have since converted my '65 ST400 to the newer VB as suggested by Mark Deconti. You can use the newer filter and the shifting characteristics are MUCH better. I like those downshifts.

I can probably find the thread if you are interested.

I did a search on the thread I mentioned and it must have gotten blown out in the last crash. It was thread #68002 dated 3/13/05. I have a hard copy of it. Unfortunately, all the the great pictures seem to be lost. I can send it to you in a PDF.

I highly recommend doing the swap. My Wildcat loves it.

    John,
Fram FT1013 is the cannister filter. If you switch the valvebody like suggested, you can use the broiler pan filter (FT1020). You'll also get better control of the shift points and a part throttle kickdown. You should be able to find that filter in an Auto Parts store even if they have to order it. I have a new one I don't need somewhere. If you have no luck, I'll look for it.

I'm not sure, but I think your going to need a pan from the later model too.

I think the broiler filter will work with any pan. If I was you, I'd get the GM deep pan, 2 extra qts of fluid. I have that on my trans. The following are the GM part #'s
    Deep Pan-8679994
    Extended pipe- 8629526
    Long Filter bolt-8633208
    Spacer for filter bolt-8629523
