I love my special. The 300 is a great motor. However, my second st300 is whining again. For the same cost as rebuilding my tranny, I could procure a running 1973 455/400 combo. Any thoughts?
In a heartbeat! I did the same to my '64 last year and don't regret it one bit. It's an easy swap. A lot of the wiring and the trans linkage hooked right up. I just had to move the trans crossmember back a few inches. Good luck.
Do it! :TU: Do it! :bglasses: Do it! :Brow: But make sure the 455 combo is in good working condition. :TU:
all right. went to the wrecking yard and the 73 riv is too nice to part out. It was only driven until 1980. However, I did find a 76 le sabre w/ 455 (runs good and the price is right, he'll swap for three newer parts cars) my question, is a 1976 455 good enough for my 67?
I'm doing the same swap now. Take your time and plan ahead, find a decent 70-74 455, freshen it up, then do the swap. Unless you have a lot of free time, why not do the swap once. Then you can spend your free time enjoying the fruits of your labor instead of wrenching/patching on a tired 455.
A stock '76 455 is VERY low on power. But it would be a good foundation for a build-up. The '76 is a desireable block. Better oil passages as well as, generally a better quality casting. The heads are questionable. They are low compression, open-chamber type. Would prolly be OK if used in a "forced induction" application, or if you wanted to use "flat-top" pistons but still not get real high compression. But, otherwise, they are junk. If you don't want the whole '73 Riv, then just get the engine. If you don't get it, someone else will.
Get the block and find 70-74 heads I think some one on the board has 73 heads for sale with reg valve job for 200.00. Get-R-done :3gears:
