Went to start car and all electrical power was dead except headlights. Suspected fusible link. Pulled the wiring harness and found 2 butt connectors that were crimped in place where the 2 fusible links should be, one of the connectors had come loose. I want to replace the connectors with the correct fusible links and I know the rule of thumb is 4 gauges smaller than the size of wire you're trying to protect. However I do not know what gauge these wires are supposed to be from the factory (maybe they've been changed?) or what gauge the factory fusible links were? What was their length? Does anyone know? Car is a '67 Skylark 340 2 door sport coupe. Thanks
On my 70, the feed wires are 10 and 12 gauge. The fusible links are 14 and 16 gauge respectively. You can buy them at any auto parts store. You need not be concerned with length, just use them as they come out of the box.
Usually a good rule of thumb for the length of the fusible link wires, as is common practice, is somewhere around 9".
