This car was saved years ago from the Highway Patrol. I'd like to by it myself but Owner needs the cash. So here we go.

1967 Buick Riviera, in 1970 Buick (at site 106) replaced the 430ci with a complete 455ci replacement engine. Tagged on door jam.

    VIN # 494877H929480

This car hasn't been started in years, many years. Engine is a 455 with 4bl, will try to find code if needed. Auto transmission shifter on colmn. Rear end unknown.

I wish he would have put a picture of this tag in with the auction.

He's selling a Riviera and people are asking questions about the Camaro and Mustang in the background of his photos......

No idea what he's on about with the "Bureau of Automotive Repair Tag"

Buick replaced the original 430 for a 455 at a dealership with the number 106, and this is documented in the sticker on the door jamb ?

  3. I would think The Highway Patrol did the replacement at site 106.

Most large Police Orginizations have their own garages.

    455 in a '67 ?

    What Erik . . with a K ! ! ! said .
So that the new (455) motor number would be recognized legally, as it was different from the 430 motor number that would have matched the vin number of the car originally ? :Do No: :Dou:

  5. The motor does not have to be "recognized legally" after a swap. I merely think this was an identification plate so that future Highway Patrol mechanics would know why there was a different engine in the car and when it was replaced.

My brother has purchased ex-police cars, and you will find information written on all sorts of things. The date the A/C will be re-charged will be on the compressor written in paint pen, and a tranny swap will be notated on the air cleaner.

I just think this tag was to notate when the chage happened; nothing more, nothing less. It is not illegal to put a motor in a car that does not match the VIN.

  6. I have another thought.

    From http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/stdhome.asp:

The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) is part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs. BAR registers and regulates approximately 41,000 California automotive repair facilities, and licenses smog check, lamp and brake inspection stations.

I notice the PCV notation on the tag. I think this tag was required to show even with a different engine the car still was smog compliant.

    Joe,

You think this Riviera was a Highway Patrol car ?
I understood it was bought from an impound lot from the Highway Patrol.

And what to think of this:

He wants to buy it but offers little sea shells instead of cash... :Do No: ?
