top has been down for years (garaged). dont know if hydralics work.
i wanted to manually pull it up to clean and get paint ready
(no canvas on it) but it only pulls up about 6 inchs and it will not go any further.
i am afraid to pull real hard because i dont want to break or bend any thing.
no rust any where - it looks like it ought to just come up.
    any ideas ... appreciated.

    thanks

from what you describe it sounds like it is all still assembled.
To raise it manually you need to unbolt the hydraulic cylinder rods from the top frame.

    ok -
    thanks
i take it then that the top only works hydralically and will not work manually at all......
unless of course these actuating rods are disconnected.
do you know of a site where i can download the convertible information that would be found in this cars chassis/body manual ?

    thanks

    le sabre top

it was really tight to get to the piston/rod area to undo the bolts and nuts.
i got some chilton/gm instructions - they say doit with the top up. but since mine was frozen in the down position it was really slow going getting them off.
looks like probably the motor has failed. the hydralic fliud (what little there was of it) looked like apple juice with little chunks of brown sugar init. smelled bad too.
so the top is freed up now and looks like the skeleton of it is in good shape. so now.... on ward.

    thanks
