Hi Everyone. My name is Shawn and I recently got back into the Buick game after 20 years. Restored a '67 LeSabre Custom 400 in high school and, of course, had to sell it. Now I'm back in with both feet. Recently, I bought a '67 Electra 225 Custom Conv. w/air (Yes, the same one that was on Craigslist in RI!). She is in rough shape, but only has 86K and the trunk is solid. I will be looking to get her back on the road for this summer. Looking forward to hearing from all the other Buick boaters out there!
Welcome aboard Shawn! There are a couple us on here with '67 Electra convertibles, you'll be able to get some good info.
Shawn: Good to see another big ragtop entering the board :TU: Please show us a few photos of your Electra
Welcome aboard! That one on Craigslist from Rhode Island looked very cool, great color too. If you are looking into repairing the quarterpanels, let me know if you have any questions as I had it done on my '67 and it worked out great! '67 Electra convertibles are great cars with the 430 engine and all. Also look for the article that Eric (Bad Boattail) recently posted about the '67 Electra convertible. That was a good read.
I've said it before: the brain trust here can't be beat. Nice to see another ragtop owner! BTW: I grew up in a town in Rhode Island just north of Providence. Good to see the state can still represent!
Shawn, Check out the link below. The person put up some good pics of a '67 Electra. http://www.carnut.dk/us/1967electra_blk/index.htm
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I bought the car in RI, but actually live in Mass. I will definitely be asking a lot of questions going forward. I can only hope she eventually looks as good as the other convs. here. My ’67 is Champagne Mist with matching interior and white top. The former owner did not have any information about her, so I am starting from scratch. I will post some pics. as soon as possible. One question, has anyone dealt with rust at the cowl where the windshield meets the dashboard? My car was sitting for a long period of time and has rust all along the base of the windshield, but on the inside. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Shawn
Welcome aboard. We need more Boats here so we catch up with the GS and Larks, no offense cause I like them also. I like mine because there arent a lot of them left and they are cruisers. Lots of help here on the board. Just something about having the Buick Name. :beer Gary
Hi Shawn, I had the same rust problem at the winshield base on both my '67 Electra and '67 Wildcat. The only solution is to remove the trim & windshield to remove the damaged areas and replace, prime & paint. It sounds daunting if you've never done any bodywork before, but it's not too bad. In the end most of the work is hidden, and the contours only need to be close enough for the winshield to seal with the butyl rubber. Probably the hardest part is removing the windshield intact. Patience is paramount. Devon
Devon, Thanks for your reply. The windshield is already cracked, so I do have some room for error in removing it. My concern is that if the metal in the cowl area is too far gone. Is it difficult to replace all the metal?
It will require some basic metal fabrication, MIG welding and maybe some seam sealer. Finishing off the contour will require body filler. Devon
