I helped my buddy tune up his 66 Chevelle today. It had a miss in it so we checked all plug wires to make sure they were getting spark. They were OK so we pulled the plugs which were all fouled badly. So, we replaced the plugs and then took it out for a test run. The Chevelle is VERY nice and mostly stock with headers, Edelbrock intake, holley carb. The car is a SS396 with 4 speed. So we take it to the local "back country" road for a few runs and it's running very well and pulling hard. He let's me take a turn and I was impressed with the car. We head back to his place and he starts telling me we should go get my car and take a drive together to see how the Buick runs against his Chevelle. I finally tell him let's go get my car and go for a drive. Now both cars are pretty well evenly equiped; big blocks, 4 speeds, headers, same size/make tires. We line up and he gives the nod to go. Windows are down and the sound of both big blocks roaring with everything they have was really awesome. We both launch hard and right from the start the GSX is pulling really well and slightly pulling away from the Chevelle. By the time I hit 2nd gear I was continuing to pull and starting to walk away from the Chevelle. I was pretty impressed as I was a bit anxious to see how my car would fair against the BB Chevelle. We lined up 2 more times and the results were exaclty the same. I did spin the tires a bit too much the 2nd run, but as soon as the tires stuck I just walked right up to him and when I shifted to 2nd I was walking away again. Third run he launches hard and spins the tires and I was late and just sorta rolled into the throttle and got right up to him just before shifting to 2nd. As soon as I shift to 2nd I was walking away again. We head to my house and park the cars. He is a really great guy and LOVES Buicks. He's had a few GS cars and a GSX clone. He said he was impressed with the GSX and was not surprised by the outcome of our adventure. Anyhow, I think he's looking for a Stage 1 car now....:Brow: Fun afternoon!
