I don't have any idea how someone would know this but of the 33,086 v8 hardtops made how many came factory equipped with the 340-4v bucket seats console option?I have seen very few non GS cars with these options. How many have you seen?
Thanks for the response! So I guess yours must not have the bucket seats console? Anybody else ever seen one with this combination lately or ever?
I'm in the process of restoring one! I'm in the process of restoring a 1966 Buick Skylark with the Wildcat 375 engine (340-4). I picked the car up about 5 years ago. The car has bucket seats with the console. I have all the documentation to go with the car. I was wondering the same thing about how many were built this way. That is why I am taking my time restoring this car. The problem that I have is finding NOS or show quility chrome trim pieces. Back about 4 years ago I found most of the parts I needed at a Buick National Show. I though that I paid a lot for these parts then. The prices that they are getting on eBay is way too high. I'm still looking for a mint condition tailight bezel. Does anyone else have this problem for a 66' Skylark. I also am looking for a pair of mint fender ornaments. Jerseysky66
Thanks for all the responses, seems like this combination makes for a rare Bird. I have some '66 Chrome available, attached is a picture of some of the stuff I have.
I have seen one, it is in my garage  My car is a 66Skylark 340-4, ST300, P/S, manual brakes, center console, buckets, floor shifter, no vinyl top, no a/c. Well there are now two of them that I know of. All the other non GS 66 larks I have seen are bench seat, column shift 300 cars. I would be curious to see exact production numbers for cars optioned like ours. Might be rarer then I thought.
It's like the 1967 GS 340, but it's not a GS This combination with the Wildcat 375 (340-4), 2 speed trans, bucket seats, console. Is the same basic power drive and set up in the 1967 GS 340. Does anyone even have a 1967 GS 340. A man the next town over from me has one, and it is very similar. Jerseysky66 1966 2 door Buick Skylark (GS 340?)
The 1967 GS 340 and GS California have the exact same drivetrain as my 1966 Skylark 340-4. Still, Buick folks don't want me calling my Skylark a "GS".....
Unfortunately, most GM divisions didn't keep specific record of every car built with "X" options together. I think Pontiac might be the exception here. Buick did keep records of how many specific options went into an entire model, such as how many bucket seat options went into the Skylark, but you'll never find a production number with all the various options together. I think that information for 66 has to be available somewhere, as I have copies of the option breakdown for the 65 models. I hope that made sense. After reading it through a couple times, I'm not sure if I came across all that clear. Mark
Build sheets and protecto plate I guess without the proper information like Build sheet and Protecto plates. Anyone can put together anything and call it what they like. Jerseysky66
I have both the build sheet and the protecto plate for my '66,as well as the 1966 Dealer Price Sheet which lists all the options. The only question of "missing" info that I know about, is that the build sheet's structure is not known with certainty. Such as, exactly what went where everywhere on the sheet. Because of this, you can't know if certain items came on the car, or what may have been added later. I have heard that this may never be solved. Someone else, like Jim Sheils or Keith Bleakney, may know more.
Harry, I am in the process of trying to figure out the buildsheets for 65-66 Skylark/GS cars. If I could get your information it would help with solving the mystery. I have been decoding the 70-72 flint cars for some time now but do not have much info from the early cars. I still have the buildsheet from my old 66 GS coupe that was built in baltimore. Between the two I might be able to figure something out. Duane
Duane, I'm away on vacation for the next week, but will be glad to get back to you with anything that could help you after I get home.
66' 340-4BBL buckets and console I have a 66' 340-4BBL, automatic, console, bucket seats. I also have one with the 340-4BBL auto column shift bench seat. I have no idea about the #s that were produced.
i have a 66 hard top it also had a 340 4b but the guy i got it off of said he put a th350 but it wasnt a floor shifter and it had bench seats
Well if your car was built in Flint or Kansas, the group numbers are on the firewall tag and can be decifered from there..I know almost all of the codes from group 2 - 5 Fremont cars didnt stamp the accecories nor did baltimore cars...actually baltimore cars had a different method of codes which I dont know... Jim Shiels Dwane...bought another 66 GS 4 speed car with original paint in Oregon...wow ..you should see it blue mist with a blue interior..been in a garage covered since 1985..I will get pics..or email me and I can send them to ya :TU:
