This may not really belong here but I think it fits. If anyone here can help it would be awesome. I am working on a 66 425 rivi. Any Buick guy I talk to says 425 is the only engine in 66 in a rivi. MY problem is I sent the center link to rare partsfor rebuild....U.S.P.S. LOST the center link and can not find it and will not pay out on the ins....SO I have called a vintage salvage yard. They say though that their 66 rivi has a 401 engine? Also that the center link is different between the two engines....Conflicting opinions yep... bottom line, 425 only in a 66 rivi?.....center link if it comes from in fact a 66 rivi regaurdles of "claimed" engine it will work?.... The car is almost done and I am going to wind up with a beautiful black 66 one owner Riviera that does not steer! Thanks fellas!
99.9% sure the 425 was the only engine option for a 1966 Riviera. Its possible the parts car at the salvage yard you contacted had its motor swapped. Only way to be for sure would be to run the numbers on the block. And as far as the centerlink, Sorry but I cant help.
The OE engine was a 425 and the centerlink wouldn't make any diff with an engine swap to a 401-good luck
It doesn't matter what engine is in that Riv, centerlink can't be different. 67 has different CL but it's not the case here. I say go for it and don't worry.
What is USPS' rationale for refusing to pay out the insurance on something that they lost? Is there more to the story? If they will not honor their insurance, I guess that it doesn't make any sense to purchase it.

Only one engine for a 1966 Riviera and that is the "425". Those links are getting hard to find. If it really is a 1966 Riviera they have then get the center link and have it rebuilt. BTW Good Luck on your Riviera....
The centerlink is the same from 66-70. Engine size doesnt matter. Its a TRW DS-785. The GM number is 7811113. In 1973, it was $25.35 EDIT- the print is getting smaller in my parts book. Looks like 1966 is by itself. Its a GM 5698113. 67-70 seems to have a different number. Sorry or the confusion. next time I'll put my reading glasses on
Jason, Your info is wrong. The '66 is a one year one model only center link. When Buick built the '67 with the 430, they had to use a different center link. 63 - 65 is interchangeable, 66 is a one year one model only, 67 - 70 is interchangeable.

first off get your local congressman aholt of usps.... and see what he can do with it.... and check you may can haul the insurance co into small claims court.... and the c/l that you found will most likely work... a nailhead is a nailhead is a nailhead.... the centerlink should be the same....

THANK you all foe the response.I have been in contact with rare parts.I originally has sent it to them. They have no cores for these they are purely on a rebuild your old one basis. I purchased one from desert valley auto. They swore it was 66...i paid and they shipped it directly to rare parts....it is a 67 so back to square one. USPS will not honor claim because they say they delivered it.I do not doubt that, but where it WAS delivered I do not know.Only that it was NOT rare parts.Word to the wise make sure delivery signuature required wich means either specify ot insure for a minimum of 200 dollars. Long story short.YES 66 center link only! I NEED ONE ASAP IF NOT SOONER. I have a car that is amost done and has no steering. ps it is a one owner special order all original black car...pure sexy on wheels! imagine buying it new and still owning it today! wow!
Hi, I have one for you if you can't get one from someone else, it will need rebuilding. It's out of this car: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?238008-66-Riviera-GS-want-a-good-cry&highlight=66+riviera $50.00 plus shipping Thanks Bruce
I see you are in ontario...Do you have any idea how much it would cost to ship it to southern california? As I need it as fast as I can I would have you ship it directly to Rare Parts for rebuild. Please let me know.Time is of the essence to make the glass shop and interior shop deadline I am behind the 8 ball BAD! Also I will snap some pics and post them up.Now mind you this is a frame off, everything rebuilt, powdercoated re plated etc. of a one owner car. It is pretty special for me to be involved with. The customer is VERY anxious to have his baby back.
