Hello Friends. My buddy has a 66 LeSabre convertible that he has had sitting in his yard for years. I havent seen many of them and was curious if anyone had any info on those cars. Its a different looking body and would probably make a clean beach cruiser. I would appreciate any info and am mainly just curious as to peoples thoughts on these cars. Thanks.
Nice cars overall . Could for sure be a nice cruiser . Couple things - even though you are in southern California it has been sitting on grass outside , be sure to check underneath for rust , corrosion , evidence of accident damage . Check tire wear pattern , fluid condition ( gas oil atf etc ) . Will it start ? Move ? Check trim , if it has a bunch of missing or badly damaged trim that stuff will/may be difficult to find and probably expensive . If you are worried about it . Engine - front distributor = small v8 , rear distributor = big v8 ( nailhead ) . 4 bbl intake ? Pop some pics up . Curious .
Unless changed it would be a 340 that produced 220 bhp or, for an extra $26, 260 bhp with a four-barrel carb. They built 4994 of them, the convertibles had the custom interior. Being a convertible is a plus but people will always prefer a Wildcat or and Electra as the LeSabre was the big car bottom of the line. If the condition warrants, it would be a great cruiser
Thats all great info. I will have to get back out there and take some photos and look it over better. It is a dessert car so shouldn't be rusty but interior is probably dry and cracked. I do know it has the 340-4 barrel. Thanks for the help.
If it has LeSabre 400 emblems on it, it has the variable pitch ST400 trans instead of the base model variable pitch ST 300 two speed trans. It is a nice upgrade that a lot of the LeSabres had. Cheryl
@Harpboys4 where are you located?. Are you going to buy the car? I'm not interested in the car just curious but I would like to know if we are neighbors. I'm in Phelan.
