just got myself a 66 special with the 225ci and 3 spd manual.how hard of an install is a 455 buick???looking to mate one with a t 10 borg warner is this an easy installation??i know the headers have to ''massaged'' but where can i get the motor mounts or from what car ??any tips appreciated.for now im going to do a budget build up so im a look for a smogger 455 how much of a performance should i expect??quarter miles time with 2.7x gears (for now). i seen a couple of 430s in the junkyard and they got high compression and i understand they got 345hp?? or should i stick 455??any thoughts inputs opinions greatly appreciated.

I just put a 455 in my 64 last spring and it was very easy to do. I used Postons motor mounts and stock manifolds. I put in a near stock ( cam upgrade to a TA 112 ) 70 455 and a turbo400 trans with a shift kit with 3:55 gears and an eaton diff. I'm running consistent 13.3's at 103 on street tires. With a little more experience and some traction I think 12's are well within reason.

oh i was thinking of a more aggresive combo to get to the 12s,those are some nice #s :TU: what kind of compression are you running on your engine?? also are the 64-67 lighter than the 68-72??

I've heard of the 64-67 models referred to as "lightweight A-bodies". Before the engine swap my car scaled at just over 3200 lbs. empty. Thats pretty light. I'm sure I gained a few lbs. with the eng./trans combo I put in but I think it's still pretty light. This winter I'm planning on a set of headers and I'm building a set of Stage 1 heads using an extra set of '70 heads I had and valves from JW. With some porting and the ignition upgraded to an MSD unit I think I'll be in good shape. I just freshened up the stock '70 SF engine using the original pistons and am assuming the CR to be at 10:1 as the specs claim. I run 93 octane pump gas with 32 degress total advance and don't have any pinging/detonation at all. I have run some 110 fuel and do notice a definite improvement in idle quality.
