Hey all, whoever replaced the outer bearing on my Lark before I got it didn't have the retaining ring put on. Needless to say I have a nice whitewall started.:Dou:
I took it in to get a new bearing and retainer ring. Unfortunately the bearing had worn the shaft. I can't seem to locate a direct replacement.
Are there any crossover axles? I know most GM's were fairly interchangable during those years. What would work?:Do No:
    Overall Lgth: 29 5/16ths
    Shaft O.D. @ bearing: 1 3/8ths
    Shaft O.D. @ splines: 1 3/16ths
    number of splines: 28
I couldn't find an I.D. tag on the differential. It has a total of ten bolts, 5 on top, and 5 below.

I'm in the St. Louis area. Any idea where I can find one around here?
I found one on Ebay. But he's up in Wisconsin.

Moser can make you new ones. They can make anything as long as you have the measurements. What year Skylark?

64-66 should fit, but you HAVE to check the rears width or axle length.
Some 64 rears (like Cutlass) are one inch narrower, and some 66-67 rears may be one inch wider!
The GS and Station wagon axles are a larger diameter than the plain Skylarks.

Thanks for the advice guys. I managed to locate one from a vista cruiser. I'll have it put on a lathe and milled down. I've kept the original for comparison so the sizing is matched.

The lengths are a match as are the spline number. The only difference is where the bearing and keeper ring seat is a slightly larger OD. I guess this was for the heavier rear of a station wagon.
I will check out Moser too though.

Good to hear you found a replacement.:TU:
The GS and wagons use a larger wheel bearing....axle is larger at the bearing as you found. Is the rest of the axle a larger diameter as well? I don't recall.
GS and wagon housings are also different to accept the larger bearing.

Yes, the shaft is a larger diameter. So it's of to my uncle Ralph's to put it on the lathe. That way I can use the 'Lark bearing, keeper ring and bushing/seal.
Wish me luck, this, among numerous electrical gremlins have kept me from driving for two weeks.:Dou::af:

Well, it works. Now it's just killing gremlins left.
