can anyone get me a picture of their console. I am trying to figure out if mine has the correct console and boots for a 66 skylark GS. also what was the factory color of the console? black or silver. mine is for a 3spd if it matters.

anyone have a picture of a factory tach for this car so I know what to look for?

    Thanks for the help.

In the Buick world manual floor shift A bodies, 65-72, came with consolettes. The word console was reserved for floor shift cars with auto trans. The consolette was optional. From 65-72 they could come with just a floor boot and retaining ring around the shifter. 68-72 shifters were not the same as those used on 65-67 model Buicks.

Consolette bodies were chromed pot metal with the upper half painted most often black. They did come from the factory with the upper half painted in dark blue (GR 4.015 #1380324) and red (GR 4.015 #1380323). They were also sold with a paint to match upper body half--meaning an unpainted upper body( #1386208).

Attached is a pic of a black one taken from our 70 GSX. It is hard to see but the side edges remain chrome.

Also attached is a link to a consolette that sold on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-6...yZ140719QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

This is a picture of another board members consolette. Its in a '65. Shifter will be the same in yours. Also shows tachometer. His is an AC car. That is the reproduction shifter boot that is made for the later Hurst shifter.

Hey thanks guy's. I already love this site. I will post a pic. of mine and my car in the morning. My consolette is silver does this mean its been repainted? It looks original. Also it looks like the one on that red 65' sets a lot lower to the floor than mine. I have got to get a picture of mine.

Any chance that is just the chromed rough finish on the upper half? If so, as I indicated there is a listing for unpainted --meaning you just painted color over the chrome.

I guess that is possible. What about this boot? I got this from yearone but I see that opgi has a listing for an upper boot and a lower boot. Am I suppost to have two boots? Also my original boot had a rubber flap that covered the screw heads. This was the only boot that was listed at the time for that year.
Here is a better picture of the shifter and boot.

The console appears to have the chrome top that Jim mentioned without any paint on it. You can paint it with SEM.
There are two boots - one on the floor and one on the consolette. The one on the consolette is secured to the bottom of it on the three prongs on the underside of the consolette. There are upper and lower retainers for the shifter boot. The bottom one is just metal and the upper one is chrome. This is all detailed in the manual. If you need it I can scan a copy and post it or email it to you.
