I'm looking for the correct bell housing for the 401 Nailhead in a 66 Skylark GS. Also need a 4 speed shifter. I have everything else. Let me know what you have, thx. Mike
Hey Rick, Thanks for the response. Could you describe or show a picture of the cross member mount, please? I have a T10 iron case 4 speed that I was planning on using. The car was originally a 3 spd manual. I have somehow(don't ask me how) misplaced or lost the original bell housing. Never had a 4 speed shifter, only the 3 speed shifter, which I believe is a Hurst. I was assuming that the shifter mounted to the trans itself. I took this car apart probably back in 1989! Will your shifters and linkage work on a T10?
Hey Rick, I actually checked the manual and found a diagram. Looks like I will need that crossmember mount and linkage as well. Can you post up a few pics of the shifter and linkage, please? I am definitely interested, Thx Mike
Mike, here's a pic of the shifter I restored for my '66.... I disassembled and zinc plated everything. Note the crossmember mount is part of the shifter. There is another part, a tubular brace required for this setup. Buick did this in 66 and 67. The 65 GS shifter bolted directly to the trans. I once found a shifter body at a swap meet which was identical to the 65 GS unit, but had a short handle. The trans-mounted shifter bodies are repo'd, and the repo Impala handle is similar to the GS handle. These are not for sale. 66 shifter: And here's a pic of the 65 GS shifter: And completely disassembled!:
IIRC, I sold a complete 65-66 GS 4 speed setup, but I BELIEVE I saw an extra bell H in storage... Could be wrong but I'll check. I also have one or two 66 GS 4 speed shifters....somewhere in the mess of bins as attached pix show. Conversation sent. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
