Hi guys. I have a 66' Gran Sport that has some rust issues. The area where the battery sits on the driver side of the radiator core support is rusted through. Since core supportsupport are hard to find, has anyone tried patchwork in this area? Here are some pics of the area. I also ordered the lower windshield chanel. There is rust in the driver door jam? Thanks for any suggestions.

Find one from a 66 Skylark, non GS for the drivers side core support and wheel house. Skylark battery is on the pass side and most likely the drivers will be good. You can remove the core support section from the upper and lower supports and spot weld it in and it will look like OEM.

He could probably find a LH(drivers) side inner fender as well. I've got both but really need to separate everything to be able to see what condition everything is in.

The plain Skylark piece is your best bet.
I made a patch panel last year. It was a fair amount of work as I was trying to come up with the best processes for all the details. I used a Harbor Freight bead roller to roll in the channels. I need to make another this winter, I expect it to be easier this time.

Walt nice work, but easier if you can find a rust free Skylark LH one, lots of Skylark and specials out there, I have done a 65 GS and a 66 GS that way and if you finish the spot welds and then bead blast or dip the whole core support and prime and paint it you cannot tell it was fixed.

Wow, that looks good. Do you think a affordable Harbor Freight arc welder would do sheet metal?
