I am in search of two '66/'67 Skylark AM/FM Radios. Now, if memory serves, the AM/FM may not have been available until '67 but I can't remember. Regardless that is what I am looking for. The plan is to send them off to be upgraded with the new internals to be able to have USB/Satellite Radio and/or possibly Bluetooth added. So they don't necessarily have to be in working order, but they need to look nice. Let me know if you have one or a couple laying around that you don't need. Thanks - Johnny
AM/FM for a '67 is fairly rare so unless you are just set on having the appearance of an AM/FM radio in your dash, you can save yourself the expense of buying an old AM/FM core radio(s) by using someone like R&B Vintage radio. He does not use any of the original internals so it doesn't matter if it is an AM or AM/FM. So just send your original AM radio and it is converted to be AM/FM, and add USB, iPod connections, and blue tooth if you desire. I don't think he offers satellite radio however, but you could ask. http://www.randbvintageautoradio.com/ I had an original AM/FM set aside for my '67 GS and my '69 GTO but after finding this guy I decided I could sell my old, non-functional vintage AM/FMs and have my original AM radios converted. It keeps my car appearing exactly as it rolled off the showroom floor and I got enough money for my old core AM/FM radios to pay for the conversions. Whichever way you decide to go, good luck. Please keep us posted on the service and quality of whomever you decide to use to do your radio conversions.
Y'all bring up a very good point about the AM/FM. For me, now thinking about it a little while longer. I could go with an AM only for my car cause that is what came in it. And as pointed out the use new guts anyway, so it doesn't matter if the original radio is AM only. The Uncle however, will want AM/FM because that is what is currently in the '67. He wants another radio to send in because he doesn't want to compromise the radio that is in it now, because it works. I don't know if the AM in my car works or not because some previous owner cut the wires on the back of the radio and removed both front and rear speakers. As far as places to send them, I am not totally sure yet. I have this place in my old bookmarks, which I believe came as a recommendation off this board some time back. http://www.turnswitch.com I personally don't know anything about them though. OK. So let's change this a bit then. I am looking for one '66/'67 AM Radio for a Skylark and then one '67 AM/FM Radio for a Skylark.
I have an AM from a 66 and an extra 66 AM/FM that I just offered to a guy from NJ. If that deal falls through I will let you know. I have 4 66 Skylark AM/FM radios all refurbished but need 3 for my cars. The AM is yours for $30 plus shipping if you want it, without knobs. PM me.
bump. Still looking for an AM/FM. Have a line on an AM from Jim, but if anyone has a set of '66 knobs in nice condition I would be interested in those. One of the "cups" in my car has chrome peeling and needs to be replaced.
