Hello again, we got our stubborn lady purring like a dream but i have some concerns about voltage regualtor. car itself drives fine, no dead batteries overnight etc. on multimetr on battery i have without lights and vents on about 13.5 - 13.7 volts+, but on dash pointer barely moves to the right. when i turn the light and radio on, voltage stays about 13.2 but on dash pointer is heavly to the left (discharge) also, sometimes when idling when gear is engaged i can hear voltage regulator buzzing when im in the car. harness is new/rebuild alternator is new/rebuild voltage regulator is new next question- is it possible to change that old regulating unit to newer one? like universal, is it doable? Thank you and Godbless
Yes. There are solid state regulators that are compatible with 3 wire alternators and direct fit. VR15 is the correct type and are made to appear like many OEM housings as the Delco units. Do a search on google "shopping" and see if you can find the one that matches yours. You original may only require some cleaning of the contacts (and maybe adjust) to restore correct function. Would only take an hour or so to clean up and test.
I had my electrician to adjust it but its just so rare here in Poland to have that type of regulator. is there any manual for adjusting regulator?
Yes. I believe the 1968 manual procedures will work. If I am mistaken, someone with the 1966 manual can correct me. 20210630_162826 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_162853 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_162925 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_162935 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_162947 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_162957 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM 20210630_163029 by TrunkMonkey posted Jun 30, 2021 at 4:42 PM
well thank you but i have oryginal service manual, thought you might have some tips or tricks to mae it easier.. nontherless thank you!
I ditched the 3 wire in favor of a 1 wire. Unplugged the regulator and stuck the plug under the prongs so it looks like its connected. No more problems
