Have a 65 special which looks to have very flat original springs and I like the height. They need to be replaced and while I know there are lowering springs I can get stock springs for 1/4 the price. It was suggested to me to keep the lower ride height to use V6 springs in my 300 with no ac. I did a search and did not see anyone using this set up and wanted to see what you all thought? thanks

The book calls for moog 5246 as a stock front spring. It is 11" at 1872# with a rate of 298 #/in.
CS638 (57 Chevy appplication) will be 10.7" at 1872# ,which is .3" lower installed height or about 1/2" lower at the fender. It is slightly stiffer at 328 #/in. CS5370 will also give about the same drop, slightly firmer at 357 #/in.
CS6312 would be about 10.5" at 1872#, or about 7/8" lower at the fender. Rate is 337 #/in.
CS6310 will be about 10.4" at 1872#, or about 1" lower at the fender. Rate is 329 #/in.
6320 will be about 1-1/4" lower at the fender, and stiffer at 380#/in.
6308 will be about 1-5/8" lower at the fender, and stiffer at 380#/in.

that's great - thank you for the info with part #'s. Looking forward to replacing the fronts and driving a much better handling car. Thanks again.

Decided to go with the CS6310 which I am ordering this week but I also wanted to see what front sway bars people are using?

I went through the same thing with my `65 Skylark. I really liked the ride height where it was but the original springs were soft. I took a gamble that they had settled through the years and I bought a set of Hotchkis 1" drop springs. Actually, they listed them as 1" drop on the front and 1-2" drop on the rear. I was very happy to find that after installing them the car sat within 1/4" of there it was with the stock springs. It rides nice and handles a lot better. I don't think you would be disappointed if you went the same route.

Lot's of options for sure. I've decided to go with the Moogs. Great price and locally available. According to specs if I go with 6310 front and 5237 rear I will get a 1" drop from stock which should work out well.

Also looking at front sway bar, what is anyone using? Summit has one but would be interested to hear what others may be running. thanks

I'm using an 1 5/16" Helwig bar. The original was a 3/4" and I initially went with a 1" off of a `70 GS. It was definitely better but when I put that Helwig bar on it made a huge difference in handling.

Suspension Done! Wow what a difference. I thought it drove well before, now it's amazing. I want to thank you guys for the info. Went with lowering springs by moog (figured out my own part #'s) and dropped it almost 2" from stock. Shocks are new and replaced the front sway bar. The one front spring was broken and so was the original sway bar. Car sits nice and low, ride is tight but not to rough. Your feedback helped a lot so thanks. Will post a pic when I get one.
