the car is getting a little closer to road time so for right now I just redid the stock 9-1/2" drum brakes ( front n rear ) on the car - but - that's not gonna cut it probably after a little driving etc .
thinking of a decent basic front disc upgrade and it looks like there is an 11" rear drum choice ( chevelle ) listing that sounds like it would be a quite noticeable improvement . I hesitate to disc the rear , the ford 9" is set up to mount the stock GM backing plates and I am not sure how the disc conversion parts would match up .
or , just bigger drums all around ? a little easier n cheaper but the front disc kits are pretty straight forward anymore and not a huge expense . I do kinda have a soft spot for a drum set up - or maybe that's the soft spot in my head ! I do like using as many original parts or original style parts in the car as possible . just sometimes modifying them a little to improve the function .
anyway - anybody have any experience with any of that ? any info appreciated . thanks .

searched a little , found an archive post at www.chevelles.com .
info looked like this from what I could gather - #18002392 , 76 monte carlo drum plate available ( one side , other side not available . but another place told him that was available through a GM "special parts" ? program ) , 73 and later chevelle , monte carlo and el camino plates n parts maybe . said with good sized rims n tires some combo's with 11" rear drums had to remove lower shock bolt and drop rear a little extra to remove tire . one person stated that with the front disc and rear drum upgrade the car stopped very well and that the stock proportioning valve seemed to work ok also .
when I was looking around a little more also saw some references to moser and currie maybe having some parts ? and www.mpbrakes.com looked like they had some ford 9" rear drum upgrade stuff and a "universal" rear drum kit . like $600 but came complete .
edit : and down in my "parts wanted" thread tom had some input - 73-74 era chevelle etc wagon parts may do the trick .

just back from BPG ohio - talked to bill with a 65 GS . he put the right stuff front disc kit in with stock rear drum brakes , said they worked great . so i might go that route and only worry about the rear's if needed . if needed probably use the mid 70's chevelle stuff .
he also had some inside scoop on the right stuff people , high praise . he knows some GM delco/moraine brake people and said that they said that the right stuff company is the only company that does full testing on products - pressure testing , install and road testing etc . bill stated that he had a problem with the catalog info ( boxed frame v open frame app's ) went to the place , the owner took him on a tour of the plant etc etc . fixed bill's problem , totally made the problem go away = happy customer .
