Hi all, recent post for a 65 had everyone going goo goo and advertised the car had no rust. Thinking buyers have to consider what this means.
No rust that anyone can find. Rust that has been removed and is no longer there. Car has zero miles and has been stored in a climate controlled environment for its entire life. (comes with ministers affidavid).

Was just out rustchecking mine (43,000 original). Appraised value $10,000 Cdn. Buick did a great job with factory rust prevention. There are two plugs that face inward to the trunk on either side of the rear quarter. The holes had slits in the bottom for drainage right from the factory. Also there are two plugs in the rear wheel well going into the rocker (total of four). Damn if my passenger side wasn't rusted.

If your thinking of buying a rust free car, ask for pics of the plugs. Ian

    Right you are Ian.

When I hear anyone say their 62 - 73 GM car has NO RUST, I know they are either lying, ignorant or stupid.

With the windshield and backglass window channel design, it is nearly impossible for them NOT to rust. Even if the car never saw a drop of rain, I'm sure it was washed on accasion. And that's enough to cause rust. My car is from New Mexico, and while the undercarriage is very, very clean, the lower fenders and lower quarters were patched before I got it.

Now, rust in the desert is certainly odd, but it can and most probably DOES happen.

One of my own observations.......it doesn't hurt to remove the windshield and rear window mouldings every so often and clean out the debris. My theory is that leaves, dirt, etc. settle in there and absorb moisture like a sponge and hold it in there and that's what rusts out the area. If you wash your car often (or leave it outside) that area will never dry if it's filled with crap. :bglasses:
