Hi, I finally found the Riv I've always wanted: '65 Gran Sport, original great condition. Has 89,000 miles and has been in climate controlled storage since 1986. Now, aside from changing all the belts, hoses, fluids, plugs, etc., What else do you Buick guys recommend checking and/or doing? I am not a great mechanlc but want this car to be reliable and kept as close to original as possible. Would sure appreciate any and all help to make sure I don't miss or forget anything.
The car has the original 425 with 2 4's.

    Thanks!! Joe

    :) Hi Joe!
Welcome aboard and congrats on your new ride! Some things to be aware of are your brake lines and hoses, they can cause BIG problems if they fail! I would go through the brake system in it's entirety, and even consider doing an upgrade to a dual system master cylinder, which a good numer of first generation riv owners do! I've got a 63 that I did this to and it works great and doesn't detract from the car's value at all. Have you joined the Riviera Owners Association yet? Good folks, great news letter and lots of Riviera parts and information. The website is www.rivowners.org Where are you located in St. Paul? I'm in Maplewood, right off of 36 and 61! Take care, Tim McCluskey

"you Buick guys" it's not you Buick guys....it's "my Buick brothers"

Welcome to the club. This board is a great source for information. I even ask questions for my Oldsmobile friends.

    Regards

Has the motor been started on a regular basis during its storage? If not, you will want to do some minor preparation. Dan

Replace the tires and valve stems also . Rubber takes a toll in storage .
